Shell: More Engineers needed.

Shell Malaysia is continuing with its recruitment drive and is looking for graduates from a diverse background ranging from business, IT, Sciences to Engineering.

Currently, under its graduate programme, Shell Malaysia is seeking candidates from the following disciplines: geosciences, engineering specifically petroleum engineering and well engineering, and information technology (IT).

Jonathan Kohn, Human Resource (HR) Director, Shell Malaysia said: "In addition to having a strong academic record for graduates or relevant working experience required for a particular position for experienced hire or professionals, candidates must also demonstrate good communication skills, an enthusiasm for new challenges and are creative and pro-active.”

He added that candidates should also be independent and work in a team, and embrace Shell’s core values of honesty, integrity and respect for others.

“At Shell, there is a supportive culture,” said Kohn, on the working environment in Shell Malaysia. “We aim to find a balance between structured support and professional freedom.”

Shell Malaysia currently employs more than 6,000 diverse and talented people nationwide.

As a global business, employees become part of an energy company that is committed to running business in a way that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.

Shell Malaysia employees enjoy flexible career paths and excellent growth as the company believes in investing in the training and development of an employee.

In addition to enjoying an attractive salary package, individual work contributions are recognised and rewarded through performance-related pay and bonuses.

The company reviews the compensation packages periodically to ensure they remain competitive and attractive in the market place. Over the past year, Shell Malaysia has significantly strengthened the compensation package for technical professionals and graduates.

On recruitment, Kohn said the Shell website (www.shell.com/careers) has been most effective in attracting graduates and professionals. Shell Malaysia also uses online job portals such as JobsDB, trade publications and the local newspapers. As part of its graduate programme, the company also participates in campus career fairs organised by local universities.

When using the online method, applicants can easily post their resume and track the progress of their application online at their convenience.

The Shell website provides a list of vacancies and a comprehensive overview of careers in the company. It also offers a summary of roles in different disciplines, allowing a job seeker to explore the various job areas available.

Those who are unable to find any suitable opportunity immediately may subscribe to the job alerts feature on the Shell Malaysia website and receive first-hand news of any new vacancies. Graduates can use the “degree matcher” feature on the website to help them  identify career options most suitable to their degree or discipline.

In 2008, Shell Malaysia won the coveted Graduate Employear of the Year and Graduate Employer for the Engineering category by Grad Malaysia.
