Online recruitment very effective

Job seekers active on the net should be happier than the ones perusing traditional method of job search via newspapers, for example, as more and more companies are opting for online recruitment services for their needs. Take FMC Wellhead Equipment Sdn. Bhd for example.

More recruitment online.

FMC’s Employee Relations Officer Shubash Kumar in an interview with JobsDB Malaysia noted that the shift is definitely worth it. “We used to publish our vacancies both through newspaper and online as well. Very few vacancies are being informed through word of mouth based on the qualification of the job applied.

That will change for now. “Previously most of the recruitment was done via newspaper advertisement but beginning from this year we feel that vacancies published through online e.g. e-mails are more effective and potential candidates responses would be even faster,” he noted.

Business as usual with tighter budget in 2009.

According to Shubash, the company is indeed planning to recruit more staff this year as it has not been hardly impacted by the terrible global economic scenario last year.

“Despite the economic challenges being faced around the world, this year (2009) FMC performed very well and we are still running on fully operation.

“The most cost-cutting measure we did during 3rd quarter of last year was shutdowns in a day before holidays to save operational cost,” said Shubash. A little compromise on the employees behalf came when they had to deal with reduced petrol claims.

More Recruitment for 2010

With things looking brighter this year, the company, which is situated in Gelang Patah, Johore, is planning to add to its current 350 strong employees, of which 200 are permanent staffs, while the rest being 150 contract workers.

“WE produces high quality surface and subsea equipment for the oil and gas industry and we are definitely looking for candidates who are highly qualified especially on the technical service. Qualifications of the candidates are looked upon based on the job applied,” Shubash said.

Quality Candidates with good communications skills always wanted.

On the candidates, like most employers featured here, Shubash emphasised on the communications skills which are not easy to come by these days.

“Our company is US based, therefore communication skills of the employees are given top priority. Candidates must have good command in English, both spoken and written,” he said. “Candidates must be highly enthusiastic and be able to take up challenges they face day to day in their job”.

Satisfying Career in FMC

Dismissing the notion that hardware are boring place to work, Shubash highlighted what would in fact be a more rewarding career platform.

“I would say that those who join our company will have a meaningful and rewarding career with us,” he said. “These candidates will find their  job interesting, satisfying, challenging and at the end of the day will be rewarded for their skills, effort and experience.

Employees can look forward to improvement in remuneration and healthcare benefits, as the company does periodical changes on the former and review salaries annually. In fact, employees are given cash vouchers if they come to work without absence.

This has in fact culminated in an excellent relationship between the company’s employees and employer relationship.

“FMC working culture is that all the employees work as a team and this is practised in all departments,” said Shubash. “This is the reason all the products gets delivered within the stipulated time and we get more trust and confident from our customers.”
